Além de sua importância histórica, a Fortaleza da Arrifana oferece uma vista única e deslumbrante sobre a Praia da Arrifana e a Costa Vicentina.
Este forte foi construída em 1635 durante o mandato do governador do reino do Algarve, D. Gonçalo Coutinho, com o fim de defender a costa ocidental algarvia.
Sobre a porta de entrada estava colocada uma lápide onde constava a data de construção da fortaleza, bem como um Escudo Nacional e o Brasão dos Coutinhos.
Passados mais de três séculos após a sua construção, o antigo forte filipino, voltou a ser reabilitado, desta vez por acção do Município de Aljezur.

In addition to its historical importance, the Fortress of Arrifana offers a unique and breathtaking view over the Arrifana Beach and the Costa Vicentina (West Coast of Algarve).
This fort was constructed in 1635 during the mandate of the governor of the kingdom of the Algarve, D. Gonçalo Coutinho, in order to defend the west coast of Algarve.
On the entrance door was placed a tombstone that included the date of construction of the fortress, as well as a National Coat of Arms and the Coat of Arms of the Coutinhos family.
After more than three centuries after its construction, the old Filipino fort, was once again rehabilitated, this time by the Municipality of Aljezur.
